Bench Sander Reviews

Bench sander is a sander that is fixed on a table or a solid base. The person who works on this sander has to hold the material opposite to the moving bench sander. Just like a sander, bench sanders are available in different sizes and models. You must choose one depending on your specific work demand.

Types of sanders:

Belt sanders: work on large extraneous surfaces to remove thick coats of varnish or paint. It works by rotating sandpaper rapidly. A loop of sandpaper is wrapped continuously around two rollers. The belt sander tools are best in the large tasks like smoothening wood floors and out decks. Stationary as well as hand held belt sanders are available. They also come in small sizes to fix on a school bench as well as in large sizes to sand a whole plywood sheet. These sanders are suitable for sanding wood as well as for the metal products.

Disc sanders:

Disc sanders are also known as the stationary machines. They consist of rotating wheels that rotate the circular sandpaper pads. This type of bench sander is used to sand wood and soft materials like plastic and aluminum. They are attached either by a loop or by a hook system or by the pressure sensitive adhesives. Disc sanders can be powered pneumatically with compressed air or with the help of electricity.  There are two different types of disk sanders available: 1.Pad sanders and 2. Random orbital sanders. Many bench sanders are equipped with both the disc and belt sanders.

Oscillating bench sanders:

Oscillating bench sanders have a spindle fixed to a table. Sandpaper is attached to the end of the spindle. The spindle oscillates as well as rotates up and down or in and out along the spindles axis. It can be ideally used in furniture and wood working shops. Advantages:

A bench top sander is one of the most useful tools. It takes a few seconds to carve the exact angles you require. Its precise size is also an advantage. It is affordable and easy to operate. Its sleek taper generates a lot of heat that helps sand the surfaces with ease.

Precautions:

You must be cautious while using the bench sander. It is important to hook up the vacuum to collect dust to avoid the bottom of the bench sander to be filled with sawdust and igniting of the saw dust due to the sparks that are generated while grinding. It is also advisable placing the bench sander at elevated heights.

Operators must wear protection gear such as masks, goggles and apron to safeguard against the dust that is generated while using the bench sander.
